No messing with those aweful pull cords for starting. I do have to use both battery packs but it's nice that I have a third from my cordless drill if I need it. Don't expect it to do well on very thick stalks or "weed whacking" as we call it on the farm, but it's great for small trimming. It definitely worth not having to pay $30 for a landscape service to come. Not good for someone with a bad back.
Buy an electric start gas push mower to go along with this trimmer. Girls, if you have a husband, make him decide on which trimmer to buy but for yourself, you will love this. I love this trimmer. I have used a gas trimmer years ago and recall trying to pull the cord to get it to start. I have had it for over a season and it works great on my pseudo landscaped quarter acre.
The hardest part about this product for me is trying to remember to go in the basement and switch out the batteries when charging them.
I used a battery up and hardly cut any grass at all. This just did nothing. It sits waiting for one of my children to have a garage sale. I have numerous Black and Decker Cordless items and thought this might fit my needs at work. Have a 10 X 20 patch of grass in front and not worth getting a mower for. Can't give it away.
Pros: light, easy to carry, no cord, not as noisy and gas-poweredCons: battery runs out fast
Not having to do maintenance on yet another small gas engine, worry about fuel/gas mixtures, etc The parts I trim with this are basically just grass, which it does fine with; it has a little harder time with thicker weeds, etc.The things that are great about it are:1. It's a good thing this comes with two batteries for this size of yard, since the first battery starts to noticeably slow down after about 2/3 of the job. Instant-on: just attach the battery pack and squeeze the trigger and you're ready to trim3. I bought this based on the other positive reviews I saw here, and I have not been disappointed. My yard is a little over 1/2 acre and includes several flower beds, trees, storage shed, etc which all need to be trimmed around whenever I mow. It is much lighter than the gas models, without being tethered to an extension cord like the plug-in models.2.
It wasn't difficult, however it did take a significant amount of time. I rate this product "excellent". I wasn't aware I'd have to assemble this. The batteries and charger, as well as the trimmer, all work extremely well.
